Delafield
Lutheran Church
In
1873,
a
group
of
Norwegian
families
chartered
the
Delafield
Lutheran
congregation.
After
meeting
in
homes
for
10
years,
they
built
a
church
building
with
two
other
Scandinavian
congregations.
In
1902
the
Delafield
congregation
built
a
separate
church
northwest
of
Lakefield
in
Jackson
County,
at
a
cost
of
$2500.
The
first
service
was
held
on
December
26,
1902.
In
1924,
electric
lights
were
added.
In
1928,
the
high
pulpit
was
replaced.
In
1964,
the
reed
organ
was
purchased
from
a
church
in
Minneapolis,
MN.
During
maintenance,
a
repair
slip
was
found
in
the
organ
that
dated
1889,
so
the
organ
is
actually
older
than
the
church
itself.
The
congregation
sustained
itself
for
125
years.
In
1998
it
became
apparent
that
it
could
not
continue
due
to
declining
membership.
The
last
service
was
held
on
November
1,
1998.
In
February
1999,
the
building
was
moved
to
its
current
location
at
Fort
Belmont
Park.
It
has
been,
and
continues
to
be,
used
for
a
variety
of
services
and
celebrations.
