World of Outlaws return to Jackson Motorplex in Minnesota in 2016 on June 24
JACKSON, Minn. — December 10, 2015 — The World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series will return to the newly renamed Jackson Motorplex in Jackson, Minnesota on Friday, June 24, 2016 for an event co-sanctioned with the National Sprint League. The event will mark the 10th A-Feature event contested by the series at the track, dating back to 1987.
In the World of Outlaws last visit to Jackson Motorplex (then Jackson Speedway) in 2014, Joey Saldana was victorious. Saldana held off seven-time and defending series champion Donny Schatz for the win in that 30-lap race.
The World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series raced for the first time at Jackson in 1987, with Bobby Davis Jr. picking up the win. In 1988, three-time series champion and 20-time series titlist Steve Kinser, split a pair of features at the half-time.
The series didn’t race at Jackson again until 2004, with Kinser picking up his second-career win at the track. Daryn Pittman, who claimed the 2013 World of Outlaws championship, won at Jackson in 2005. Schatz picked up his first victory at the track in 2006 and scored a second win in 2013. Kinser was triumphant at the then-half-mile in 2010 for the third time in his career, which is the most of any driver with the series at the now-Jackson Motorplex.
In nine A-Feature events for the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series at Jackson Motorplex, six drivers have been victorious. Kinser and Schatz are the only drivers with multiple wins at the venue.
The 2015 campaign was a historic one for the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series as Schatz became just the second driver to win 30-plus A-Feature events in the season, joining Kinser, who accomplished the feat three separate times in his illustrious career. On his way to winning his seventh World of Outlaws title, Schatz surpassed the 200-win plateau for his career, joining Kinser and Swindell as the only three drivers in series history to achieve that mark. Schatz racked up 31 total wins when the final checkered flag of the season flew.
A total of 22 drivers won A-Feature events with the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series in 2015, including full-time drivers: Shane Stewart, who finished second in points, Brad Sweet, who drives for Kasey Kahne Racing finished third in points, with his teammate Daryn Pittman in fourth. Also victorious were veteran drivers Kerry Madsen finished fifth in the standings, with Indiana native Joey Saldana in sixth, Paul McMahan seventh and Jason Sides eighth.
Numerous upgrades have been made at Jackson Motorplex over the last couple of years, including the installation of brand new Musco lighting. New bleachers with deluxe-style seating, press box and luxury suites are being installed this off-season. The track also has plans to install several socializing decks to allow fans to enjoy the atmosphere at the track. Jackson Motorplex is owned by Tod Quiring, with Doug Johnson serving as the General Manager.
